Wow ... for this painting
This is a painting named The Belgian Revolution of 1830 and was painted in 1834 by Egide Charles Gustave Wappers. It was in 1830 that Belgium became independant and a Monarchy. Most wonderful detailed tableau with in the back the houses that still exist.
What a magnificent painting....Gilberte.....a truly fitting work to celebrate your country's independence....... hope you're having a lovely weekend...... Kim
thanks for payed visit to my modest art-blog (actually my art-warehouse, i would say!) - hope see you some other times, whanever u want!!
Though Im quite diffident about figurative works i must say yours have something special ... Im self-taught and i would pay to use watercolours like you do!!!
Hello Gilberte, My great grandfather fought in WWI (167th US Infantry, Rainbow Division) and spoke highly of Belgium and your people. His regiment had the honor of being the first Allied troops to enter Belgium after the armistice on their way to occupy Germany. He told us how the Belgium people gave a warm reception and how they seemed most like southerners (sincere and genuine) to him out of all the people he met in Europe. That's a high compliment... coming from a southerner. Just had to share that info with you... growing up in the southern US, with great granddaddy's influence, we were raised to think high of Belgium and its people. See ya at Wet Canvas! Bernie
